6000+ crowd Saturday at the Perk will earn UW-Whitewater the 2011 Division III attendance title


The recent resume is staggering. Seven consecutive WIAC titles, six consecutive appearances for Mount Union in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Salem, Virginia, and three NCAA Division national titles in the past four years. The Warhawks open the 2011 Division III playoffs in first round action on November 19th.

On Saturday, UW-Whitewater fans have the opportunity to capture its own national title with a large crowd at Perkins Stadium.

With a crowd of 6,026 vs. UW-La Crosse, UW-Whitewater will capture the 2011 NCAA Division III per game, home attendance title.

According to official NCAA Division III attendance statistics released earlier this week, Hampden-Sydney College ended the home portion of its 2011 schedule by drawig 39,987 fans (7,997 per game) to Everett Stadium in Hampden-Sydney, Virginia.

UW-Whitewater enters the final day of the regular season averaging 8,491 to each of its first four home games of the season (No. 1 in Division III). UWW’s cumulative attendance through four home games is 33,962.

As previously indicated a crowd of 6,026 will be required to pass Hampden-Sydney’s home attendance figure and give UW-Whitewater the 2011 Division III per game attendance title.

Last year, St. Johns (Minn) was the Division III football attendance leader for the 10th year in a row and the 14th time in 18 seasons.

With six home games at this season SJU drew 46,191 to Clemens Stadium in Collegeville to lead the nation in cumulative Division III attendance.
